MATEKEEPER VOLUNTEER program
What is a MateKeeper volunteer?
MateKeeper Volunteers are everyday people in our community who are proactive in reaching out to those struggling with mental health and wellbeing.
As a MateKeeper Volunteer, our counsellor and program coordinator will give you the tools and tips to:
Listen non-judgmentally and show people you care
Connect people to early intervention with our counsellor, other local services or emergency services if required
Learn the skills and knowledge required to support your mates, neighbours, co-workers and even individuals you may not know with mental health struggles.
All MateKeeper Volunteers are encouraged to take part in our free QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) suicide prevention training. This training gives our volunteers the confidence and correct tools to proactively support struggling individuals.
We encourage our MateKeeper Volunteers to be as actively involved as their lifestyle allows and join us in our vision to build safer mental health spaces in our communities. Together we can help to break the stigma around mental health in our communities and create a united front to support people in need.
